Dominicus in Fishus

Hello and congratulations. You have discovered the official website of the Violent Fishcakes, a cult movement that will soon be sweeping the nation's pub quizzes. If you succeed in taking the Fishcakes to a new pub quiz somewhere around Britain, please leave a message on the message board. Hopefully there'll be some other stuff on the website for you to look at as well by the time you read this, such as pretty pictures, and writing and stuff like that so have fun looking round.

A bit of history

Here is a brief timeline of the Violent Fishcakes:

May 2002: Tom Stennett calls his team "the Violent Fishcakes" in an end of year quiz at Broughton High School. The name is remebered for being cool yet alarmingly random.

May 2003: A group of Runshaw College students, including Tom, take part in their first ever pub quiz together, at the Hogshead in Preston. Call their team "the Violent Fishcakes" cos it's such an ace name. Take part in this quiz a few times, even winning it once, before Graham Holmes gets us barred.

August 2003: The fishcakes, having struggled to find a new home pub, decide to give the quiz at the newly-refurbished Lamb and Packet a try, and find it to be extremely good fun, being especially inmpressed with the cheapness of the quiz (only 50p a team!) and also the provision of free sausage and chips. The pub will forever be the Fishcakes' spiritual home.

May 2003 - Sept 2004: During this time the Fishcakes also try out many different quizzes around Preston, details of which can be found on the encyclopaedic "Quizzes" page.

Sept/Oct 2004: The Fishcakes are forced to split up, due to the fact that we are going to Universities spread all over the country, although the Fishcakes that are remaining Preston-based vow to keep the L+P tradition alive. Dominicus in Fishus!

Our Logo

Our logo was designed sometime towards the end of 2003 by Andy Hall, but this version was made by Dave Price-Williams because the aformentioned Mr. Hall has the artistic skills of a fridge magnet. The Fish in the logo obviously represents our fishy associations. It is smiling to show that we are a tongue-in-cheek quiz team, not an overly serious one. The swords however represent the fact that we will always try our hardest and fight to the end, no matter which quiz we are taking part in. The "2002" represents the date that the name "Violent Fishcakes" was created, by Tom Stennett, at a Broughton High School end of year quiz, and our motto "Dominicus in Fishus" closely resembles the latin for "Master of Fish" showing that we aspire to one day being masters of the humble pub quiz.
